***TEMPE SCOOTER UPDATE***
We had our meeting with about 10 Tempe City officials yesterday and they gave us their final decision.
The verdict?
EasyrideZ may no longer operate in a mobile fashion as we have been in the City of Tempe for the last few years. According to them, we should never have been allowed to, but when pointed out that the "miscommunications" (false agreements) were on the City side, I was told to be happy for the 3 years I got.
They claim to be providing me 3 "viable options"... yet they have offered no new ideas other than options we've already collectively explored.
Solution # 1: Private property only.
I would need to restrict my business to a set location, which does not fit the on-demand mobility service I've been providing around the City. I have also seen my type of businesses attempt and fail a storefront setup time and again; The bills far outweigh the profits, in my experience. People ride scooters (such as BIRD and Lime) in the parks, they do not seek them out on private property.
Solution #2: I could try to land a concessions contract with the city.
Ok, I said. How do I begin? Well, apparently the city does not currently have any opportunities for contracts, nor do they know of any upcoming in the foreseeable future. I have been informed of this situation in the past, and they reiterated it yesterday.
Solution #3: The SATV Permit, which is not actually an option until I have a fully compliant App with auto locking scooters. Transportation Department is unwilling to issue me a temporary SATV permit while I complete the final stages of the app I've been pouring my earnings into over the past 3 years. With no earnings, I cannot complete development and pay the City's nearly $9,000 permit fee.
I received very little empathy from these officials of Tempe, and no concern for my future. I did have a friend who happens to be an attorney sit in on this meeting to gain a more professional perspective... he agrees that there were actually no options provided at this meeting. I find this interesting, considering the city said in their response to Channel 12 News that they would work on a "unique permitting solution" for my company.
I believe it is time to confront the city of Tempe on legal grounds. Suggestions welcome.
