We’re just a couple days into 2020, but we wanted to give an early peek at the proposed changes the IAME USA West platform will see beginning in 2021. As many will recall, the platform had a seven year freeze on any changes, and 2020 will be the last year on that timeframe.

We have carefully considered changes for 2021 in the interest of safety, longevity, and continued parity. Full details on both SKUSA and IAME web sites.

One of the biggest myths we hear about the is that there are “special engines” that certain “favored” drivers apparently get. Of course in reality, nothing could be further from the truth. But we get racers love making excuses for why they aren’t winning.

Parity is one of the cornerstones of the platform, and something we’ve worked incredibility hard to further with the 175SSE. As many likely know, SuperKarts! USA has a rule where any competitor is free to claim another competitor’s engine. It prevents the fabled ‘suitcase engines’ commonly found in other classes or formats.

Did you know - ProShifter driver Billy Musgrave won on a *rented* generic engine? He gave his ‘factory tuned’ engine to a different customer. Furthermore, even his generic shifter engine was claimed midway through the event. It left him to contest the final races on a random rental engine he had very little time to dial in.

The 175SSE is not perfect, and to reiterate: we’re not suggesting it is. We will continue to fine tune and innovate. We are committed to serving the karting community and value the input and feedback. We feel we have an affordable, reliable, and competitive shifter kart engine. We look forward to the second season of racing it.

Consider the cost to lease a race winning 175SSE shifter engine capable of winning. Compare it to the costs to lease a race winning KZ in Las Vegas. (*If you can even get your hands on one.) We understand why some hate the 175SSE format. It’s bad for their bottom line.

We recognize can be a lot like a hair salon. People love to or spread misinformation. Consider the sources. Disgruntled racers who have been reprimanded or suspended from competition for conduct aren’t always the best for an unbiased opinion. Just sayin’

Is the perfect? No. But is any engine *truly* ever all things to all people? We stand behind the vision of the platform and are tremendously committed to improving on an already successful product. The impetus for the concept was always rooted in longevity, parity, and reliability. We even have to remind ourselves sometimes, it was only the first year.

We are excited to kick off year 2, beginning with the at AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex presented by MG Tires in a couple short weeks. The good folks over at KartSport North America will be offering a special lease price for the week at just $1500.

Draw your own conclusions, but consider this as one example:

Aluminos driver had a whopping 25+ hours on his bottom end, and over 8+ hours on the top end. He stormed to a victory against ‘completely fresh’ 175 engines.

We had a stellar weekend in New Castle Motorsports Park for the finale. The 175 SSE had no less than 40 shifters, and we're definitely encouraged by the feedback. The X30 classes were also tremendously close with Ryan Norberg, Matt Johnson, Kai Sorensen, and Freddie Slater taking the championships respectively.
