Last week, the GMS team was called in to salvage this 29' Sea Ray after it suffered extensive fire damage while on a boat lift.

Sometimes moving a boat means taking part of it apart first.

Before this Grady-White 300 Marlin could head to New Jersey, the GMS team needed to de-rig the vessel, removing the necessary components and carefully securing everything for the trip.

Towers, antennas and other equipment can put a vessel over legal transport height. Our team handles the de-rigging needed to get the boat ready to safely travel over the road.

Taking it apart is only half the job. Everything removed from the vessel has to be protected and secured properly so it arrives safely along with the boat.

With the de-rigging complete and equipment secured, this Grady-White is ready for the next step: loading up for New Jersey.

This 42' Yellowfin made the trip from Carrabelle, FL to Valdosta, GA, then down to Stuart, FL, where it was loaded up and headed for the Bahamas.

DOCKSIDE DIAGNOSIS 🔧

COMPLAINT: A persistent fuel smell that no one had been able to pin down.
What do you think it was?
When this boat came to GMS, our team started with the obvious places—accessing the fuel tank inspection areas and checking the fuel system for signs of a leak.

We found rusted hose clamps and evidence of previous repairs, but no active leak at the dock.

So we kept looking.

Each tank was filled individually while we monitored the system with a combustible gas detector. That's when we found it: a fuel leak around the port tank's Ullage Vent Valve (UVV), which had previously been installed incorrectly.

The valve was corrected, the tanks were pressure tested, and the boat was sea trialed before another leak check confirmed the repair.

DIAGNOSIS: improperly installed Ullage Vent Valve.

RESULT: fuel leak eliminated and the boat back on the water.

Sometimes the first thing you find isn't the thing causing the problem.
