When should you change your oil filter?

Most oil companies insist that you change your oil filter every time you get an oil change, but is this necessary? Not quite, every car is different but unless you are driving an antique vehicle your standard oil filter can last you 7,500 miles. This is approximately every other oil change.

You don't need to change your filter every oil change but more so every other oil change. Refer to your car manual to get accurate maintenance scheduling.

Which transmission system is the best?
Here is what we think...

FWD
In a front wheel drive (FWD) system the transmission is positioned in the front of the vehicle and pulls the weight of the vehicle. One of the benefits of this setup is that oversteering is significantly reduced(rear end of the vehicle sliding out and causing a tighter turn than intended). This makes these cars excellent for climbing hills and driving in wet conditions.

RWD
Rear wheel drive (RWD) systems are usually found in sports cars, pickup trucks, older truck-based SUVs and luxury high-performance sedans. It is a two-wheel drive system that pushes the car from the rear axle. RWD systems enable better handling in performance cars by distributing weight more evenly.

AWD
All-wheel drive (AWD) systems deliver power to each wheel of the vehicle. AWD systems primarily power one set of axles, either front or rear. When the car feels traction loss in one axle, it will automatically divert more power to the other axle to compensate making then great for moderate off-road driving situations. In addition, AWD vehicles provide great overall traction during acceleration due to all four wheels being engaged.

So, which transmission is the best? Well it depends on your personal preference. If you are planning to buy a utility vehicle, you may want to buy a FWD. They are great for pulling loads. If you plan on going off-roading you may want to consider an AWD so you can have better traction on dirt, gravel and rocks. If you want a car that will give you great sport car performance I would look for RWD.

Here’s one safe proof way of not buying a car with engine problems. Take the car on a test drive up to 40-60 mph and observe if the engine light comes on. If the engine light comes on you should immediately take the car back to the dealer and ask for a diagnostic test to identify the problem(s).

Here’s how to identify a check engine light:
Step 1: First turn on the car and let the car idle for a minute
Step 2: Take the car on a test drive up to 40-60 mph if possible
Step 3: Take a look at the speedometer display
Step 4: Locate a yellow icon that depicts an engine
or a message that says “check engine soon”
Step 5: If the light is on then the vehicle needs to be serviced. If there is no light appearing then the car does not need to be serviced.

A check engine light can be due to a variety of problems. Some issues are minor and some more alarming. It is better to identify a problem earlier than later so that you don’t end up buying a car that needs a load of repairs.
