When did you last look under your trailer? 👀

Your trailer axles take a beating every single haul - and once a year you need to get underneath and actually inspect them.

Here’s what to look for:

🔍 Cracks — especially around spring perches and U-bolt areas
🔍 Bent or bowed sections
🔍 Heavy corrosion or rust pitting
🔍 Loose or missing U-bolts

Axle failures on the highway are catastrophic. Catching a crack early is infinitely better than losing an axle or wheel at 65 MPH. ⚠️

🔧 It’s Trailer Tip Tuesday - Tip 9

New electric brakes? Don’t just hit the road - burnish them first. 🛑

Dexter recommends burnishing your trailer brakes BEFORE making any brake controller adjustments.

Here’s the procedure:

⬇️ Reduce your speed by approximately 20 MPH
(Example: 40 MPH → 20 MPH)

🔁 Repeat 20-30 times

❄️ Allow brakes to cool between each application

Proper burnishing seats the brake shoes & magnets to the drum surfaces for optimal braking performance. 💪

⚠️ Important: After replacing brake shoes and magnets, full break-in can take more than 100 stops involving approximately 20 MPH speed reductions. Don’t panic - trust the process.
