Sylva Vista Road Improvement Project Update


Farmer's Grading crews have made substantial progress on our drainage improvement project. To date, crews have focused on replacing aging and undersized culverts, improving water flow management, and strengthening critical roadway drainage infrastructure throughout the community.

Work completed so far includes:

-Excavation and removal of several deteriorated culverts that had become restricted, damaged, or ineffective at handling stormwater runoff.
-Installation of new large-diameter HDPE drainage pipes designed to accommodate significantly greater water flow during heavy rain events.
-Reconstruction of culvert crossings with properly graded approaches to improve roadway drainage and reduce erosion.
-Construction and restoration of stone headwalls and outlet structures to protect the ends of culverts and help control washouts.
-Roadside ditch improvements and drainage regrading to direct water away from the travel surface and into designated drainage channels.
-Delivery and staging of additional culvert materials for upcoming installations at the next project locations.
-Restoration and reshaping of road shoulders and disturbed areas following excavation activities.
-Injecting pressurized water to clear culverts.

The project represents a major investment in the long-term stability of the Sylva Vista road system. Many of the culverts being replaced have been in service for decades and no longer provide sufficient capacity during significant storm events. The new infrastructure is designed to improve drainage efficiency, reduce maintenance costs, minimize roadway damage, and better protect the community's roads from future washouts and erosion.

Crews have completed work at the initial culvert replacement locations and are continuing to move steadily down Parris Branch Road, installing additional drainage improvements as weather and site conditions permit.

The Board would like to thank residents for their patience and cooperation during temporary road delays. These improvements are critical to preserving the road system and ensuring safe, reliable access throughout the community for years to come.

Update 7/30 - He was reunited with his owner who lives in our Association 😊
Does anyone know who this friendly dog belongs to? He followed the Kimballs from above the gate on Parris Branch. He was taken to Jackson County Shelter in Dillsboro.🤞

UPDATE: Parris Branch Road has reopened to traffic.

Please use caution when traveling through the area, as the recent tree fall has weakened the road shoulder and narrowed the roadway.

Traffic cones have been placed to mark the affected section.

Emergency road closure Notice
Parris branch Road today, Thursday the 23rd is closed due to fallen tree just below Tom’s home (the one with the Jurassic Park wood carving in the front lawn).
It’s completely unpassable at this time and I will give you further information as it develops. Please call Ron at 561-767-6355 with any questions or any help or assistance requirements.

Tyler from Duke replaced the gate light damaged by the fallen tree, completing the work quickly. Thanks to the neighbors who waited while the road was temporarily blocked.

Road Improvement Update

Culvert replacement work is expected to begin at the end of next week or the following week, depending on weather conditions. Pavement patching will follow shortly after.

Throughout the project, we will utilize the community paging system to provide advance notice of traffic delays, temporary road closures, and alternate routes whenever necessary. Residents with specific questions are encouraged to contact Ron or Tom directly.

In a separate incident, a Walmart delivery vehicle recently damaged the roadway near our entrance, resulting in damage to the shoulder, drainage ditch, and associated drainage pipe. Repairs have since been completed, including restoration of the pavement, ditch, and drainage system.

Additionally, a tree recently fell near the entrance gate and damaged one of the light fixtures. The tree has been removed, and a replacement light has been requested from Duke Energy. We will provide an update once installation has been scheduled.
