“Can You Just Give Me a Ballpark?”
We get this question all the time:
“I don't need an exact estimate. Can you just give me a ballpark?”
We understand why you're asking. You may simply be trying to decide whether to pay out of pocket or file an insurance claim.
But here's the problem:
A collision repair isn't a single product with a set price.
An estimate is built line by line, based on what your particular vehicle actually needs.
Two vehicles with damage that looks very similar can have very different repair costs.
Why? There are a lot of variables:
🔧 Repair vs. replacement — Can the damaged panel be properly repaired, or does it need replacement?
🎨 Paint system — Is the vehicle a standard two-stage color, tri-coat, four-stage or another specialized finish?
🚙 Parts — OEM, aftermarket, recycled and availability can all affect the estimate.
📡 Vehicle technology — Sensors, cameras, radar and other ADAS components may require additional procedures or calibrations.
👀 Hidden damage — What you can see from the outside may only be part of the damage.
📋 Required operations — Each repair has individual labor and material operations that must be identified.
That's why we don't like throwing out a number over the phone.
A “ballpark” can become an expectation.
If we say, “It's probably around $1,500,” and a proper estimate comes to $3,000, that original number hasn't helped you—it has simply created confusion.
We'd rather give you an estimate based on the actual vehicle and actual repair than give you a guess that may be wrong.
At Georgia Paint & Body, estimating isn't guessing.
We identify the repair. We build it line by line. We explain the process.
