Lance with Amick Electric llc did an outstanding job installing five new LED lights a light switch and an outlet. This corner of the shop was such a dark hole and now we don't have to run an extension cord to the bench grinder. You could say the difference is literally night and day!

Here's a quick one for you folks if you are wanting to remove your steering wheel on a '60s Ford. It's easy if you have the right tool and O'Reilly's rents the tool for $69 rent it use it take it back. No need to try shenanigans with pry bars or whatever other tools you think might do it.

Did something I very rarely do anymore an emergency roadside repair on this 1977 GMC 4x4 Van. But the lady was broke down and lived all the way in Reno Nevada. Bad primary circuit wire burnt up the ignition module and coil . Luckily it was right across the street from Napa.

Rebuilt Generator and new regulator and she's charging good . Took a little extra time to scrub the truck with PB Blaster and a brillo pad . You don't wash bare metal patina with water you scrub it with a non silicone based penetrating oil and wipe it down with a clean rag.
Because there are no silicones the shine will fade in a few days if you want to keep a nice Sheen on patina you have to apply boiled linseed oil. Which I did not do as that might not be the customers wishes.

Well I got sick of waiting around on the generator to come back from the remanufacturing shop and decided to do some scrubbing. Picture on the left is without scrubbing and the picture on the right proves even a rusty truck looks better hand cleaned! PB blaster and a scotch Brite pad goes a long long long ways.

Let's talk tuning for a moment. Simply put properly tuned healthy carburetor and ignition systems start with the first turn of the key whether it's cold or hot.
Perfection cannot be achieved without at least a digital timing gun. A vacuum Guage can get you close but not perfect and tuning "by ear" is for emergency purposes only!

This truck had a "sticking" thermostat which means it would open but very late between 210°-220°. This combined with a malfunctioning radiator cap and improper coolant/antifreeze to H20 ratio (can't run water only) caused extreme pressures that cracked the radiator. Very lucky the radiator was the weak link and not the head gasket!
So the fix was New radiator new cap and thermostat and obviously radiator. The pictures show how to properly test a thermostat before installation. Because yes brand new parts are not as reliable as they once were.
First you drill a hole for bleeding and bypassing purposes then you heat water in a jar to the thermostat opening temperature. In this case it was 180° drop the thermostat in and watch at what temperature it opens and how smoothly. Take it out of the hot water and watch how smoothly it closes.
Due diligence makes for excellence! Always plan to never do the job twice.

A good way to start off the week is with a beautiful 1955 Chevrolet pickup truck that was his grandfather's! It is in need of a new radiator, thermostat, carburetor and timing tuned as well as electric auxiliary cooling fan repair and mounting. Also going to look into fan shroud options.
