Dear Campers,
Over the last two seasons, we have tried hard to keep electric scooters a fun part of camp life. Unfortunately, despite multiple reminders and revoking privileges for individual riders, we continue to experience serious safety issues. We are regularly seeing electric scooters traveling at excessive speeds and weaving dangerously in and out of campground traffic.
After reviewing camera footage from several close calls between scooters and golf carts or cars, it is clear that these incidents are consistently the fault of reckless scooter operation. To protect our children and ensure the well-being of all campers, we can no longer allow electric scooters at the campground. This is effective IMMEDIATELY.
We fully anticipate that some children may try to replicate these same fast, reckless behaviors on their regular bicycles. Parents, please talk to your children today. Instruct them to ride respectfully, never pass moving cars or golf carts, and never cut directly in front of traffic. Children should not be out cruising on bikes past dark or 11pm (whichever comes sooner). This goes for ANY golf carts and bikes, including those operated by adults. We do not want cruising; simply go from point A to point B if necessary. Children should be back to their sites at dark!
As far as E-bikes, these can be driven by adults only. No children can drive E-bikes.
Reminder that no underage driving is allowed on any golf carts in our park. You must have a driver’s license to drive a cart in the park, including your own golf carts that you bring into the park. This also means that they cannot steer from the passenger seat or sit on your lap and drive. We have seen this on our cameras from weekenders and seasonal campers and this MUST stop! NO Underage driving period!
While we will be strictly enforcing these safety rules, our office cannot manage a constant stream of calls. Please do not call management continuously to complain about bicycles traveling too fast. We ask that parents actively supervise their own children, and that neighbors work together to keep the campground safe.
