For Immediate Release‼️

Charlie Ray Howell takes on a promotor role at Thunderhill Raceway‼️

Howell grew up going to Thunderhill Raceway starting with the opening race at the historic high bank dirt oval. Watching his dad as a boy until it was his turn to get behind the wheel. Howell raced every weekend he could until a tragic vehicle accident left him paralyzed from the waist down, but that didn’t stop him from figuring out a way to keep doing what he loved. Driving a race car takes a lot of talent so as you can imagine it takes an extreme amount of will power and talent to compete at the level he does only being able to drive with his hands.

Track owner Cooter Harris had this to say about Howell “I’ve known Charley Ray for a long time. We use to run around and get into things and we would see each other at the track too. Over the years we got even closer and I consider him a best friend like family to me. He’s an inspiration to me and so many others. He could have given up. He could just stay home and have people take care of everything for him, but that’s not who he is. He took a tragedy and didn’t let it define him. He pushed through and works hard every day. We talk almost every day and he’s usually working 1 of his 2 businesses he started. I could go on and on about what he’s done and how much he’s done for everybody around him. He’s been behind me from day one. If I ever need anything I know I can call him and he will be there. He came to me years ago with a race idea when I opened Tennessee National Raceway back up. I leased it and had 3 good years there before buying Thunderhill last fall. I said Charlie Ray why don’t you run the race?. He said “I can” and it’s been a great 602 Late Model race for 3 years and this year will be the 4th year. This is the first year he’s taken the reigns 100% for 2 races. I told him whatever he wants to do it’s up to him that I would be out of town on the June 27th race, but I’ll be there July 3rd to do whatever he needs me to do. This is a temporary role because Charlie Ray will not give up his true passion which is driving and being an inspiration! I hope it’s some of the biggest races we have ever had because I know he’s going to put his whole heart in it”

Everyone get out and support these 2 races on June 27th and July 3rd and show Charlie Ray how much you appreciate him and his wife Anna!

NEW TRUCK CLASS?!

We are working on putting together a rule package for a Thunder Truck class that we would like to start racing possibly in September. This class would be for stock 1/2 ton v8 trucks like a Silverado, Ram, F-150 etc 1990s-2005 regular cab or extended cab. Rules will be mostly stock, but an interior cage, fuel cell, racing seat and harness belts will all be required. All safety gear will be required.

This will be a cost efficient weekly class once it grows. Payouts and rules will be based off of our bomber class. Engines and drive trains will remain stock for the make and model. Trucks would need to be lowered with a 4/6 lowering kit. Racing springs would be allowed with non adjustable shocks.

Let us know what you think!

We would love to be racing, but we made the right call to postpone. The pic below was taken from the pit gate entrance over an hour ago. The entire facility is soaked and it was still raining with more coming.

Good luck and safe travels to race teams this weekend! Next weekend June 20th we have our Jump N Run featuring our Pros, Rookies, and RZR all racing.

We have made the very difficult decision to postpone the Stock Car Grand Nationals Jason Maurer Memorial race to a later date this year due to predicted rain and possible inclement weather for both Friday and Saturday night on several different weather apps.

I have spoke to many drivers that are planning on coming from 5+ hours away (a couple from even longer) for this weekends race because of the hype and the big prize money payouts on both nights. These drivers & teams want to race, our track crew wants to race, and the fans want to be at the track watching the dirt fly, but with the predicted weather changing for the bad this morning and looking like rain and possible thunderstorms before and during race times on both nights and taking into consideration the price of fuel & travel expenses for race teams we have made this decision. This is not a group of racers that do this for a living following a big named national series racing a couple nights a week. These are the blue collar guys that work everyday to race on the weekend. We do not want to get teams here to the track and have to cancel and cost them a lot of wasted money and time. We also want to give them enough time to switch up their plans and head to track to race.

We looked into possibly trying to race Sunday if weather did get us one of the 2 nights, but Sunday predicted weather is not any better. We were very optimistic and positive that the weather would pass us and it still might, but we have no more time to wait it out and have to go by what we have in front of us. We want this to be a great show and not be hindered by anything.

We will be looking at dates to reschedule this race in the next few days. We appreciate everyone’s support! Even the ones that are going to talk negatively and bash the track for this decision.
