For the month of September we are showcasing this stunning 2014 STR Viper GTS Coupe, it has just 249 miles on the odometer and is a great example of the fifth and final generation of this legendary American sports car. The Venom Black clear coat exterior with Gunmetal GTS racing stripes and Black Suede/ leather interior bring it together as a great reflection of the car’s history as a machine that bites back but has also seen years of refinement transforming its driving characteristics for a more driver friendly experience. Easier drivability and luxurious touches are highlighted by the GTS Interior Package, which adds premium leather seats from Sabelt, leather-wrapped door trim panels and floor console, an Alcantara headliner, SRT high performance audio, and an SRT steering wheel with premium stitching. Other interior features include power-adjustable seats, windows, mirrors, and pedals, a ParkView rear back-up camera, and cruise control.
The large-displacement nature of the Viper continued throughout its production, with the 2014 model year featuring an 8.4-liter V-10 monster beneath the curvaceous carbon-fiber hood is naturally aspirated and develops 640 hp and 600 ft lbs of torque. It is paired with a Tremec 6-speed manual transmission for those who seek the old-school thrill blended with modern touches like an electronic launch control system and a limited-slip differential and rear axle. While the first Viper models were known for their unruly performance, the final generation put all the pieces together. This 2014 Dodge Viper GTS brings power, precision, and a refined driving experience that is guaranteed to liven up any trip.
The Viper has always been a raw version of a sports car. It never has been equipped with an automatic transmission, and this model does not even have ABS brakes. It does have cup holders—for the first time—but there is not a surface anywhere in the interior that can accommodate a smart phone. There are Sport and Track settings for the stability-control system but not much else to assist with the drive from Point A to Point B. The Viper requires a lot from its driver, but when it is traveling from Point A to Point A around a racetrack, its shortcomings become virtues. This Viper is a great look into Mopar’s willingness to push the boundaries of the American automotive industry and create a vehicle that is in a class of its own.
