We will all miss him!!!!

There are men, there are myths, and there are legends. For the friends and family of the Buffalo Chip, Paul Mitchell was all three. He certainly had a story that would qualifiy for all of them. That’s because Paul was a story teller first and foremost. A spinner of yarn. A teller of the finely woven threads of circumstance…his words, not ours. If you’ve ever crossed paths with Paul, at very least, you got a handshake and a smile. And as the director of the Sturgis Rally Information Center, he greeted thousands of tourists visiting the Buffalo Chip each year. Paul was a journalist, traveler, historian, rider and great friend. He will be sorely missed by all of us.

Always a Fun Stop!!!!!
The Outlaw..... what it lacks in size it makes up in friendliness. We are a laid back bar where the bartenders know no strangers. Come on in and hang out for a while.......

Prices are what they are every day. Happy hour is from 4pm to 7pm, $2.25 Domestic beers and Well drinks, with daily drink specials. We are known for our homemade bloody Mary's.

We're easy to find and hard to forget. The Buffalo Chip Rider Friendly business identifies Rhonda and the crew at the Outlaw and distinguishes them as a 'must stop' place on your trip to the Black Hills.

Just north of Spearfish on Hwy 85, in Belle Fourche or coming back on Hwy 34 from Devil's Tower, you won't regret a stop at The Outlaw.

Murdo is the 'Magic City'. It is located at the crossroads of Interstate 90 and Highway 83 in the middle of South Dakota.

What makes Murdo so 'Magical'? It is a place where strangers become friends, history comes alive and the future is embraced. Stop in at the The Covered Wagon Cafe or the Pioneer Auto Show to meet the 'locals'. They will share stories of our county history and lore about this charming community.

Murdo is the county seat of Jones County. Jones County has picturesque landscapes where the prairie meets the sky. The vast open spaces and abundant wildlife make the area known for world-class hunting and fishing. The Jones County Sportsmen's Club has expanded services for people interested in target and archery shooting to sharpen their skills.

The North Dam has been upgraded with a newly constructed picnic area and an all-weather dock which makes boating fun and relaxing.

Our City Park has a new walking path, which is wheel chair accessible, around its own water feature and covered picnic areas. Additionally, the restroom facilities at the park are universally designed.

The nine hole golf course has grass greens and golf carts for rent if you are interested in a friendly game or two!

If you're traveling through and need accommodations for large animals, we have facilities available at the rodeo arena just north of town.

To meet your banking needs on the go, Murdo offers a branch of First Fidelity Bank and First National Bank. Dakota Prairie Bank Branch is located in Draper.

For a complete list of other shops, services and amenities available in the community, please visit the various links provided on our website.

We hope you will visit Murdo and make your own magical memories of this special place.

A grateful railroad named a town for Murdo MacKenzie and the town was recognized when a lot sales was held on July 12, 1906.

LOCAL HISTORY, WESTERN LORE FEATURED AT THE HULETT MUSEUM

Artifacts, antiques, artwork and collections at your fingertips, says the Hulett Museum and Art Gallery’s website. Including both prehistoric and historic artifacts, the museum’s staff works to inspire, educate and enrich the community and area visitors.

The museum first opened in April of 2010 under the guidance of museum director/curator Mitch Mahoney. The long time archaeologist and Wyoming native, made quick work of assembling and displaying a fascinating collection.

Historic photographs line the walls, telling the story of the early day characters who were some of Hulett’s first residents. A cook-stove, wagon and tools of the ranching trade, provide a real-to-life glimpse of a by-gone era. Gun enthusiasts will appreciate the collection of both rifles and pistols. Dinosaur bones, some unearthed on a nearby ranch, draw the attention of youngsters and those with an appreciation for prehistoric findings. Many Native American artifacts may also be viewed along with several items from the Vore Buffalo Jump.
