🚐 Stuck in Gear: Quick Solutions for Out-of-Town Repairs! 🚐

I was recently contacted by a customer who was out of town and experiencing shifting problems with their Grand Caravan, which was stuck in first gear and wouldn’t shift at all.

During the inspection and diagnosis, we determined that while everything was being commanded to shift, the transmission remained unresponsive. After taking a fluid sample, we found the fluid smelled burnt, and further evaluation revealed a significant amount of clutch material and large chunks of metal.

I advised the customer that a transmission replacement would likely be necessary, although we wouldn’t know the full extent until tear down. Given that the customer was out of state, we opted for a replacement as the most cost-effective and efficient solution to get them back on the road quickly.

After just three days, we received the new transmission, and repairs were completed the following day. If you ever find yourself in a similar situation, don't hesitate to reach out!

🚗 Today's Classic: 2000 Silverado Repair 🚗

We had a classic 2000 Silverado in the shop today. The customer faced a challenge with a failed leaf spring shackle that had punctured the bed upon breaking. They attempted to replace the part themselves, but severe rust and seized bolts made it impossible.

We removed the leaf spring, heated the bolts, and carefully pressed them out, preventing any further damage to the leaf spring or bushings.

I recently had a customer bring in their Yukon, reporting that the turn signal was flashing rapidly. It seemed like an easy fix, right? Wrong! The turn signals are integrated into the headlamp assembly, meaning a headlamp replacement was necessary.

To make matters worse, GM headlamps come with a hefty price tag. After discussing the situation with the customer, we found a quality set of aftermarket headlamps at a fraction of the cost. We replaced both headlamps along with the labor, saving the customer about half of what one original equipment headlamp would have cost!

When OEM parts are absurdly expensive, or if the dealer provides an overwhelming estimate, we always explore all options. Our goal is to ensure our customers receive quality service without breaking the bank!

Many buyers may not realize that there are significant new requirements affecting modern vehicles. For example, some models now require monthly or annual subscriptions to access features such as remote start, navigation, and driver assistance aids. This means that in addition to your $500+ monthly payment, you might face extra subscription fees.

Another critical aspect to consider is the upcoming 2027 mandate for driver monitoring devices in vehicles. These systems, which include cameras and microphones, can disable your vehicle if it determines that you are unfit to drive—a so-called “kill switch” mandate. Importantly, these devices cannot be turned off at will.

Before making your purchase, ensure you fully understand these factors. Being informed will help you choose a vehicle that aligns with your needs and budget, avoiding any unexpected surprises later on.

Today, I wrapped up a unique transmission replacement for a customer in a bit of a pickle. While traveling on the toll road, he experienced a blown transmission line and had to get his vehicle towed to another shop. They replaced the transmission lines, but soon discovered that the vehicle only had reverse and first gear.

The other repair shop contacted me to diagnose the issue. After a thorough inspection, I found that the transmission had failed because the customer continued to drive the vehicle after the line failure. Understanding the urgency of the situation, I prioritized getting this customer back on the road.

It took three days to source the new transmission, but I was able to replace it the very next day, resolving all the issues. While same-day repairs aren't always feasible, we strive to minimize your time without a vehicle. Your satisfaction and peace of mind are our top priorities!
