Not Having Proper Maintenance Will Make You Have A Long Expensive Day!! Its Cheaper To Do Your Maintenance Then To Get Stuck On The Side Of The Highway. Also Very Dangerous. Please Do Your Maintenance If Able or Have A Qualified Shop Perform This Task!!
Trailering Pre-Trip Checklist
1. Make sure the trailer coupler is securely locked onto the hitch ball
2. Cross the safety chains/cables when connecting the trailer to the vehicle this forms a basket incase trailer become detached and wont cause accident
3. Connect the electrical cord to the vehicle
4.Check that trailer lights and turn signals are working
5. Check that the hitch ball is securely bolted onto the hitch
6. Check trailer hitch pin to make sure itβs in place and secure
7. Make sure safety straps are secure for securing the bow and stern of the boat to the trailer
8. Make sure that the trailerβs lug nuts are secure and not full of rust
9. Look for signs of grease on hubs, a grease leak will signs of having a hub problem, Check brakes, pads, calipers for signs of wear broken and missing clips, fluid leaks
10. Check that all tires (including the spare) for dry rot, odd shaped, worn, and have proper air pressure
11. Bring all tools needed for fixing a flat tire, spare tire, jack, tire iron trailer tire ramp
12. Check that all items in the boat are secure and wonβt blow out while on the road
13. When stopping for gas, bathroom or at the ramp, feel the hubs to make sure they are not hot "hot hubs is a sign of needing to be repacked or replaced before it locks up"
14. Pack an extra hub in case one goes out while on the road
US Safety DOT Requires Brakes On All Trailers 3000lbs or More, Tandem Axles and Triple Axles Must Have Brakes On Each Wheel.
