We were called out for a simple prop replacement on a small sailboat. Upon closer inspection, we noticed that the cutlass bearing was not only worn, but also separating from the shaft log. This was in addition to old electrolysis damage to several of the blades on the prop. Simply changing the propeller in-water would not have solved his vibration problems. Since we're not in the business of taking people's money for no reason, we recommended that he replace everything during his next haulout.

Following our annual inspection, we replaced 1400ft of mooring chain at a local marina.

Moving on to Sombrero Reef off Marathon where we'll be installing 8 new public-use anchor pins. We try to get out here earlier as it tends to get very busy -even on a weekday.

Still working at Coffin's Patch Reef off Marathon. Sometimes we're working over sensitive hard coral structure so we have to carefully lower the equipment into the water, then use lift bags to float everything to the work site. At other times, we're over a nice sandy bottom, directly over the work site. Here's Dave with his "briefcase" on his way to the "office" (gotta love that landing!). This tube is filled with about 50lbs of drive steels that we use for the manta anchor installation. Note: Do not try this unless you can equalize your ears with no hands!

It looks like chaos, but this is the end of a successful day. We started the install of Manta anchors out at Coffin's Patch Reef for the National Marine Sanctuary. Over two days, we'll be installing 6 anchors here.
