Position Overview: This person will primarily be responsible for day-to-day painting of customer vehicles but also disassembly, repair, and assembly of cars for customer return. This position reports to the Shop Manager and is full-time.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
Understand and follow direction per Repair Order.
Perform quality control check on metal work prior to beginning refinish process.
Make sure all parts are properly checked for fit and correctness.
Manage preparation and application of all primers and sealers.
Be guided by manufacturer's recommended procedures, and in accordance with OSHA/EPA.
Validate color match and spray outs to be performed on all colors before panels are "jambed”.
Be responsible for ensuring that whenever paint is mixed for jambing, adequate material is mixed for job, clearly labeled, and stocked for easy access.
Check final masking for alignment and fit.
Apply paint and clear.
Maintenance of spray booth keeping it in a clean working order.
Ensure repairs are of the highest quality, to the company standards, and followed by staff.
Ensure that ALL spray operations are complete, masking is removed, and ALL paint related disassembly is reassembled prior to metal shop re-assembly.
Solve paint problems.
Rework any repair that does not meet company standards or customers' expectations.
When in a Auto Body Technician's role:
Remove upholstery, accessories, window-and-seat-operating equipment, along with trim to gain access to vehicle body and fenders
Remove damaged fenders, bumpers and panels
Inspect, identify, and document damage to ensure all needed parts and repairs are identified to adequately repair vehicle and to reduce supplements
Bolt or weld replacement parts in position, using wrenches or welding equipment
File, grind and sand repaired surfaces
Fill depressions with body filler
Prep cars for paint
Reassemble vehicle to factory specifications
Aim headlights
Correct paint flaws as necessary
Inspect and test drive repaired vehicles to check for compliance with safety and quality standards
Operate and use all body shop equipment properly and safely
Independent of role:
Maintain tools, keep equipment clean and in a proper state of repair
Participate as a member of a team dedicated to exceeding customer expectations
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions;
Position is based in a normal shop environment. Occasional physical activity such as reaching below and above shoulder level, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping, and lifting and carrying objects over 50lbs. Exposure to fumes, chemicals, dust, along with high levels of noise may occur. Subject to weather conditions both inside and out. Required to wear protective equipment when necessary. Occasional sedentary work. Must have visual acuity to determine the accuracy and thoroughness of the work assigned.
Qualifications & Skills:
2-5 years experience
PPG paint products knowledge
High school diploma or GED required
Completion of an auto body technician program preferred
Ability to meet deadlines
Ability to work independently and as a team
Excellent communication skills
Ability to interact with all levels of personnel in the shop
Well organized, self-disciplined and self-motivated
Able to learn and adapt to new processes, technologies, and evolving environments
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
