For those of you who remember the senseless act of violence that took place against our driver, Moose, in March of 2022 - here is a final update.
Today, Joseph Jackson was sentenced to 32 years with 22 years in the Indiana Department of Correction, followed by 5 years on work release and 5 years on probation, for the attempted murder of a tow truck driver along I-70.
The evidence showed the defendant shot a tow truck driver multiple times after calling for roadside assistance, while the victim was simply doing his job on the side of a busy interstate. The victim survived only after emergency surgery.
At sentencing, the State argued for 42 years executed in the Department of Correction, based not only on the severity of this offense, but also the defendant’s continued criminal conduct while out on bond — including battery of nursing staff, resisting law enforcement, and making threats toward a statewide elected official in Indiana.
Prosecutor Loren Delp stated: “This was a calculated act of violence against someone who came to help. Even after being charged, the defendant continued to show disregard for the law and for others. That matters. While we asked for a longer sentence to reflect that ongoing conduct, today’s sentence still ensures significant accountability and protection for the public.”
I want to thank the jurors for their service, the Plainfield Police Department, Indiana State Police, and the investigators who built this case.
Most importantly, we remain grateful the victim survived. Violence like this will not be tolerated in Hendricks County.
