FALSE INFORMATION — PLEASE DON’T SHARE THIS AS FACT
I’ve received this picture several times now, so apparently it’s making the rounds.
This is NOT a new Oklahoma law. I checked the current Oklahoma statutes. There is no Oklahoma law taking effect October 1, 2026 requiring drivers under 5’2” to use a booster seat.
Oklahoma’s actual child-passenger law, 47 O.S. § 11-1112, applies to children. Children ages 4 through 7 must generally use a child restraint or booster seat if they are not taller than 4’9”. Once a child is 8 years old OR taller than 4’9”, a properly secured seat belt satisfies this particular law.
So if somebody sends you this picture, don’t pass it along as an official Oklahoma DPS or Highway Patrol announcement. It is false.
