Vehicle: 2006 Mazda MPV ES 3.0L, V6, MFI, DOHC, Naturally Aspirated, Eng Version Duratec
Mileage: 35,000
Customer Concern: The vehicle stalls intermittently. When this happens the injector waveform loses its inductive spike, it drops to ground for a few m/s and then hops back up to 12 V in a nice clean square wave.
Tests: 1. When the injector pattern is acting up, check for good power to the injectors on the Red wire. Use a headlight bulb to load the circuit, this should light a headlight bulb no problem.
2. If it does not light a headlight bulb, check for power on the Yellow wire coming out of the main relay, this should light the headlight bulb as well. If it does not, check the White wire going into the relay. If the power on the White wire is OK but the Yellow wire is low, the main relay may have failed. If power going into the relay is low, check the injector fuse for good power.
3. If power going into and out of the main relay is OK, check for good power at pin B Yellow wire of connector C-03. This is a junction connector under the battery tray. Check power through the connector on the Blue wire. Possible bad connection.
Potential Causes:
Failed Main Relay
Failed Engine Compartment Fuse Box
Corroded C-03 Connector
Damaged C-03 Connector
Loose C-03 Connector
Confirmed Fix: Bypassed C-03 Connector
Tech Tips: On this car the power at the fuel injector was good enough to light an incandescent test light but not a headlight bulb. The male terminal for the injector circuit was bent and touching the male terminal for the EVAP, EGR, and a few other solenoids. This connection was good enough that it would run the injectors sometimes and sometimes not.
