Those black streaks are actually a harmful mold called Gloeocaspa Magma. It is a species of cyanobacteria, which accumulates over time and feeds on asphalt and accumulated moisture in your shingles. If left untreated, the growth continue to hold moisture, causing premature aging, rotting and granual loss of your shingles. Our process is to chemically treat the shingles with a detergent that is specifically designed to kill the actual spore. Killing the spore is the ultimate goal which than allows it to be easily rinsed away. Rinsing it away will require minimal pressure which WILL NOT jeopardize or damage the shingle in any way. Steam cleaning is suggested for Concrete, Asphalt, Pool Decks, Garages, Stone, Slate, Marble, Tile, Brick, and more. We utilize a 36 inch surface cleaner which promotes a hot water temperature above 275 degrees to ensure stubborn stain removal. Additionally, a chemical application will be applied when needed to pretreat excessive dirt and residue. When necessary a chemical application will first be applied to pretreat areas with excessive grease or dirt residue followed by a hot water rinsing.
