The seller said it was never in an accident. The paint told a different story.
On a six-figure car, the body shop history is often written right on the panels. You just have to know where to look. Mismatched shades down the rear quarter. Orange peel that suddenly smooths out on one door. A faint dusting of overspray on a rubber seal that should be clean.
We swipe through three things any serious buyer should check before signing anything. None of them require special tools. Just good light, a careful eye, and a few minutes at the rear corner of the car.
That said, when you are committing this kind of money, a trained set of eyes catches what a quick walkaround misses. Pre-purchase paint inspections are part of what we do, and they have saved more than one client from inheriting someone else's accident.
