Winter Carnival 2024 was a big success! We had a great turnout from all ages, and especially the kids. There was even enough snow to keep the sleds going and hold our annual Cardboard Sled contest. It's time to send out a huge THANK YOU to all those who volunteered to help make this unique event so much fun:

*Ford of Claremont, who sponsored the Pyrotecnico Fireworks Show
*Ultimate Auto Body and ARC Mechanical, who co-sponsored Wunderle's Big Top Circus Adventures
*The All-4-One program, who shared their Big Games with the kids all afternoon Saturday
*Jeni and the Springfield Town Library, who organized Snowmageddon, the very popular indoor snowball fight, and also loaned us plenty of snowshoes for those who wanted to try them out
*John and Joni Robison, who led a nighttime snowshoe walk Friday evening and another on Saturday afternoon
*CPCC Superintendent Rodney Williams, who assisted in many ways with the setup and aftermath of the event
*Kevin Spaulding, who donated the perfect slab wood for the bonfire, which was built by Rodney Williams and Carson Farrar, and ignited by Nick from the Springfield Fire Dept.
*Adam from Springfield Parks and Rec, who ran and judged the annual Snowman Contest
*CPCC Pro George Heslin, The Edgar May's Eli Ramos, and SHS student Carson Farrar, who organized and judged the annual Cardboard Sled contest, and to George Heslin and Brody McCarthy, who kept the fastest sleds from reaching the pricker bushes
*SAPA TV's Aimee Parnell, who enthusiastically helped out in multiple areas, especially planning
*The group of 5 SHS students who served free hot chocolate on Friday night
*CPCC Pub Manager Kristin Cook, who is a paid employee but always volunteers extra time to make sure Community events are as good as they can be
*We also want to send a GIANT THANK YOU to our CPCC employees who put in a lot of hours in the 4 day stretch from Wednesday morning through Saturday night, and the "vendors" who entertained us all so well; The Conniption Fits, Gr8teful Folk, Pyrotecnico Fireworks, Troy Wunderle of Wunderle's Big Top Circus Adventures, and SAPA TV's videography crew!
*I apologize if I've forgotten anyone, and we'll see you all next year!

The hills at Crown Point are finally starting to look like Winter Carnival! We want to encourage anyone and everyone to build a CARDBOARD SLED! The theme this year is “Wild Animals”…School groups, families, preschools, friends, scout groups, or anyone else…here’s the deal: The bottom of the sled must be only cardboard and duct tape, other than that, just get creative! Use as many props as you want. We give prizes for most artistic, most creative, fastest and furthest down the hill, and spirit of the event!!!

Build a snow man, woman, creature, or critter and send a photo via email or Facebook to Springfield Parks and Rec anytime between now and Feb. 8.
