If your car doesn’t feel right, chances are something’s off.

1. Excessive Bouncing
If your car keeps bouncing after you go over a bump, your shocks are weak.

2. Nose-Diving When Braking
When you hit the brakes and your car’s front end dips down dramatically, that’s a red flag. Good shocks help distribute weight evenly during braking.

3. Uneven Tire Wear
If you see bald spots or patchy wear, your shocks might be letting the tires lose contact with the road. That’s money flying out the window.

4. Leaking Fluid
Take a look behind your wheels. If you see oily residue on the shock body, that’s hydraulic fluid leaking — a sure sign it’s time for replacement.

5. Poor Handling or Floating Feeling
Does your car feel like it’s “floating” down the highway or wobbling in crosswinds? That’s classic bad shock behavior.

6. Steering Feels Loose
When the front end feels disconnected or you constantly correct your steering, worn shocks could be the reason.

Step-by-Step: How to Replace a Headlight Bulb in Under 10 Minutes

This process can vary a little depending on your car, but the basics are pretty universal.
1. Turn Off the Car and Pop the Hood
Never work on electrical parts with the car running. Flip the hood latch, prop it open, and locate the back of the headlight assembly.

2. Find the Bulb Connector
Behind the headlight, you’ll see a plug or harness with wires running to it. That’s your power connector.

3. Remove the Connector
Gently pull it off. Some cars have a clip you need to push or a tab you need to squeeze.

4. Release the Bulb
Depending on your car, the bulb either twists out counter-clockwise or is held by a small metal clip.

5. Install the New Bulb
Grab your new bulb (with gloves on), line up the tabs, and lock it in place.

6. Reconnect the Wiring Harness
Push the connector back onto the bulb until it clicks.

7. Test Your Lights
Before closing the hood, flip on your headlights to make sure everything’s working.

Pro Tips for Better Results:

-Replace both bulbs at once. Otherwise, you’ll end up with one bright light and one dim one.
-Don’t touch the glass. Even a fingerprint can create a hot spot that shortens the life of the bulb.
-Check your fuses. If the new bulb doesn’t work, the fuse may be blown.
-Carry a spare. I keep an extra bulb in my glove box—trust me, it comes in handy on road trips.

Preparation is everything. Breaking down on the highway shoulder is stressful and dangerous. If you can get your car running again—even just long enough to limp it home or to the nearest shop—you save yourself time, money, and peace of mind.
