In case you didn't know about this....
Mail-order houses (also called kit homes or catalog homes) were houses purchased from a catalog. After selecting a design, the buyer ordered the home, and thousands of pre-cut building materials were shipped by railroad to a nearby station.

The package typically included:

Lumber labeled for assembly
Doors and windows
Roofing materials
Trim and millwork
Nails and hardware
Detailed construction plans

The buyer either built the home themselves or hired local contractors.
