LTU BDM Supermileage Supermileage provides engineering students with a design project that involves the development and co Vehicles are powered by a small four-cycle engine.

The SAE Supermileage student design competition was originally founded by SAE in 1980. From 1984 through 1996, Supermileage was organized as two competitions, Supermileage and West Coast Supermileage. Beginning with the 1997 event, only a single competition has been organized. This event takes place every year at Eaton Proving Grounds in Michigan in June every year. There are several colleges and schools that take part in this event from various parts of the world. The vehicles will run a specified course with the vehicle obtaining the highest combined miles per gallon rating plus design segment points winning the event. Students have the opportunity to set a world fuel economy record and increase public awareness of fuel economy. The car also must be reliable and easy to maintain. Few vehicle design changes are permitted in order promote clever problem solving and great opportunities to express their creativity and imagination.

Good afternoon everyone! Today I’d like to shine some light on engine tuning. This week they have been hard at work making a clay piston. This clay piston clearance model will be 3D scanned and sent to a company to help them calculate how much we can increase the stroke on the piston. This will give the engine a higher compression ratio which then allows the engine to run more efficiently. Nice work to all involved.

Hey all! The team has been hard at work this past week! A quick insight on one of the projects that was complete: the windshield. Being made of plastic, it proved to be a challenge but in the end the team was successful in forming it to the necessary shape. This windshield will protect the driver as well as add to the over all aerodynamic design of the car. Good work to all those involved!

Hello everyone! I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy.

The LTU Supermileage team would like to present to you the final render of the 2021 body design. This design emphasizes a slick snake skin vinyl wrap design over a body entirely made of hand laid carbon fiber.

The team is currently seeking sponsorships and donations to meet our $10,000 goal. Achieving this goal will allow the team to have better access to resources as well as take care of competition expenses
