Q:
When and How to inspect and replace Distributor Rotor on Nissan 240sx?
A:
The Datsun/Nissan electronic ignition system, introduced in 1975, evolved from a transistorized circuit to an Integrated Circuit system and later to a dual spark plug system to meet emission laws. It ignites the compressed gas in the cylinders at the precise moment using a spark from the spark plugs. Some models use a crankangle sensor in the distributor as part of the Electronic Concentrated Control System (E.C.C.S.), which requires no adjustments. Maintenance involves inspecting and replacing spark plug wires, rotor head, and distributor cap every 30,000 miles or 24 months. Diagnosis, testing, and parts replacement should follow service charts.

Common signs of a failing O2 sensor:

Check Engine Light comes on
Poor fuel economy
Rough idle or engine hesitation
Increased exhaust emissions
Failed emissions test

🔎 Typical trouble codes (P-codes):

P0130–P0135 – O2 Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
P0140–P0141 – O2 Sensor Circuit Issues (Bank 1 Sensor 2)
P0160–P0161 – O2 Sensor Circuit Issues (Bank 2 Sensor 2)
P0171 / P0174 – System Too Lean (often linked to sensor readings)

Ignoring these warning signs can lead to bigger issues—including damage to your catalytic converter and higher repair costs.

Q:
How to replace a thermostat in a Nissan Altima?
A:
Drain the cooling system and save the coolant if it's in good condition. Remove the fresh air intake duct, lower radiator hose, and air filter housing. Disconnect hoses from the coolant outlet and heater pipe, installing a new O-ring on the heater pipe end. Remove the housing cover, tap it loose if stuck, and clean mating surfaces. Remove the thermostat or water control valve, install a new sealing ring, and insert the valve into the housing with the air bleed facing up for the thermostat. Apply RTV sealant for the thermostat cover or use a new gasket for the water control valve. Tighten bolts evenly, then refill the cooling system. For V6 engines, remove the water pump drain plug and coolant reservoir, disconnect the IVT valve connector, and the lower radiator hose. Remove the thermostat housing/thermostat assembly and replace it if the thermostat is defective. Install everything in reverse, position the jiggle valve correctly, refill the cooling system, start the engine, and check for leaks and proper thermostat operation.

Q:
How to remove and install ignition coils on Nissan Armada?
A:
This procedure applies to all eight ignition coils. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. If you're removing a coil from the left valve cover, you might have to move the engine harness out of the way. To do so, disconnect the electrical connectors and harness clips for the harness, then set the harness aside. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition coil. Remove the coil mounting fastener and remove the ignition coil by pulling it off the spark plug. Apply a little silicone dielectric compound to the inside of the spark plug boot before installing the coil. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal.
