Who heard it? βοΈβοΈβοΈ
βοΈSuspected Meteor explodes over Massachussettes! Meteor likely creates sonic. Did you hear it/feel it? Reports range from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, to New Hampshire.
This afternoon, a huge boom was heard across southern New England. It was caught on the GLM band of satellite imagery, which is used to view lightning. The GLM band measures near infrared light flashes, bolide meteors heat up and burn BRIGHT -- exceeding the brightness of the moon. This is likely the cause of hypersonic boom/shock waves. If you didn't hear it, which some didn't one reason could be that soundwaves bend as they travel through different air densities. Low handing clouds and high winds can muffle this effect.
