Some days can go from triumph to tragedy very quickly. Yesterday was one of those days for me.
I’ve been working on this build for years. Finally we got the combination right and everything was working like it was supposed to. Really good flat power curve. We were able to command what output we wanted at will. No significant back pressure. Lots of room on the turbo. At ambient iats. We did lose a coil pack right at the end. I loaded the car onto the trailer and went Inside to say goodbye to Jason Herrera. (Thanks again stoopidfast)! And then we heard a crash and I come out of the shop to see this…

It’s been a while sense I’ve posted, I just haven’t had anything really glamorous to show off! Been grinding on getting details sorted out. However I did have the opportunity to do a pretty cool supercharger and exhaust job on a 2017 Nissan NV van. The owner does moble service and between the load of tools and the trailer he pulls he’s just shy of 30000lbs.
He spends hours traveling cross country and really needed the exhaust to be as quiet and as free flowing as possible. I’m happy to say that this exhaust was quieter then stock, (especially at wide open throttle) with no drone. Used 2 ultra quiet vibrant resonators and a dual inlet single outlet walker quiet flow stainless muffler. Dyno before and after was 30whp everywhere without tuning. The JBA headers fit like a glove too!

Every cage is different. Just like every car is different. It’s always amazing how much you can learn about a car by putting a cage in it. This generation of mx-5 has some really amazing structure. It kind of demanded that we build the cage in stages and then brake it all apart so we could weld it outside of the car.
The fitment was so tight we joked that this was the first “snap together” cage we’ve ever built.

First real day back from surgery (appendectomy). It’s been along time sense I’ve posted. Pretty much the last year has been a frantic onslaught of Camaro’s, mini tubs, secret projects, exhausts and of course always the last minute “going to the track in the morning” jobs. It’s hard to remember to stop and post when your always looking for the next thing to start on. In any case, aren’t these two pretty!!!
