For our Lansing Community affected by yesterday's storms. Stay safe, everyone ❤
The Village of Lansing continues recovery efforts following yesterday’s severe storms. According to ComEd, approximately 82% of Lansing customers are currently without power.
Public Works crews are clearing fallen trees, branches and debris from public streets and rights-of-way. Main streets are being cleared first to maintain emergency access, followed by secondary streets and other areas.
The Village will remove storm-damaged trees that have fallen from the public parkway.
Residents with storm-related branches should place them at the curb in front of their house. Public Works will make additional passes through neighborhoods to collect storm debris. Do not move debris near downed power lines.
If a downed tree is blocking a public street or sidewalk, email the address to [email protected] with the subject line “Storm Damage 8/12.” Trees entirely on private property are the property owner's responsibility for removal.
The Lansing Police Department has increased staffing and will continue to have additional officers on the streets during storm recovery.
Several traffic signals remain without power, and accidents have occurred at affected intersections. Slow down, stay alert and treat intersections with non-functioning traffic signals as four-way stops.
The Building Department is assessing storm-damaged properties and identifying homes and structures that may be unsafe to occupy. Stay away from visibly damaged structures and contact your insurance company before beginning major cleanup or repairs.
Stay away from downed power lines and always assume they are energized. Be cautious of anyone offering unsolicited tree removal, repairs or cleanup services. Verify contractors before agreeing to work or making payment.

Storm cleanup will take time. Village crews are working as quickly and safely as possible, and we appreciate residents' patience as recovery continues.
