RIP Mr. Vicente you will be truly missed

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of retired officer Steven Vicente. Capt. Vicente served with the New Bedford Police Department for 34 years, retiring in 2017.

He began his career as a patrol officer in 1983 and worked at all three stations before being promoted to sergeant in 1990. In 1991, he was promoted to detective sergeant and joined the narcotics unit the following year. In 1998, Steve was promoted to lieutenant, and two years later, he became the head of the narcotics division. In 2006, he was promoted to captain. His final assignment with the department was overseeing the detective division.

Throughout his distinguished career, Captain Vicente made countless contributions to the department, particularly in narcotics and major crimes, setting a high standard of professionalism and dedication that continues to inspire us. His determination, focus, and respect for both his peers and the community left a lasting impact.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, especially his daughter, Sgt. Sasha Vicente, who continues her father's legacy of service at the NBPD. We stand in support of her and the entire Vicente family during this difficult time.

Captain Vicente will be remembered fondly by everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him. Thank you for your service, may you rest in eternal peace.
