"Big sites for larger rigs. Nice staff, pool and fitness center. They have started to upgrade some of the gravel sites to cement pads and plan to do more. Close to Three River Greenway trails, Historic Columbia, zoo and gardens."

The city our resort calls home has had THREE different names.
And the reason it's finally called West Columbia is peak South Carolina. 👇

It started in 1894. Mill workers flooded the west bank of the Congaree River and the booming little community needed a name.

They chose Brookland. Named for the clear water brooks running through the area.

Done.

Except it wasn't done.

The US Postal Service said there was already a Brookland in South Carolina, so they renamed it "New Brookland." A name the town didn't pick. Because somebody else already had the one they wanted. Experience Columbia SC

Only in South Carolina. 🌴

For over 40 years — New Brookland.

Then in 1936, the name finally changed to West Columbia to emphasize its proximity to Columbia, the state capital just across the Congaree River. City of Columbia, SC

And to this day businesses, churches and schools across the city still carry the Brookland and New Brookland names, quiet reminders of what came before.
