The California Highway Patrol is searching for a big rig that may have hit the tow truck driver, who was outside of his vehicle on westbound Highway 50. Officers say the big rig driver may not have known they hit the tow truck driver as it appears they were struck by a trailer.

MPORTANT (via Matt Florian) Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. This will be a bit wordy, but it’s important to a lot of people on this page.
As you may have seen in the article posted here, the funeral for Asst. Chief Jamie Middlebrook is Monday, 11 August at 11am. From there, the New Carlisle F.D. will be bringing him home to the New Carlisle Cemetery. If there’s anyone in the St. Joseph County area that can make it to New Carlisle around 1pm EST, the community going to come together to line the route from the New Carlisle Fire Dept. building (204 E Michigan St
New Carlisle, IN 46552) to the cemetery on US-20/Michigan St. (802-898 W Michigan St
New Carlisle, IN 46552, across from the CVS). It’s a distance of about one mile that we’d like to have lined with American flags, signs of appreciation to/for Jamie and his family, and anyone from the community who would like to render final respects as Jamie goes home.
The department has requested that if you come from out of town please get there a bit early and park on the side streets and off US-20/Michigan St. There’s a lot of other departments coming in and there will be a lot of apparatus on the main road, so anything we can do to help keep congestion down would be appreciated.
Let’s line the last mile for Jamie, folks. It would mean a lot to Jamie’s wife, his parents, and to the town of New Carlisle. Thanks for your time.

Today, he doesn't go home. He doesn't get to see his wife and kids one last time. He doesn't get to hug his grand kids one last time. Never another anniversary dinner with his wife. No chance of one last family vacation. He will never walk on the beach again. Or enjoy a few hours in the hot tub. He will never get to finish watching the race he had to DVR.

You see, he is a Wrecker Operator. Much like Fire, Police and EMS, he goes out on the highway to clean up a mess that somebody else created. He braves the elements and the traffic to make sure our families are safe while they drive to their destination.

Today, Martin Braden, age 47, from Fort Lupton, Colorado lost his life while pushing a broom because somebody didn't have enough common sense to SLOW DOWN and MOVE OVER when they saw the flashing lights of a few emergency vehicles.

How many lights does it take? How many lives must be taken before YOU know what to do when you see these lights?

A State Trooper lay in a hospital bed somewhere in Colorado because of the lack of action from somebody who was given a drivers license. No doubt his family is all hanging out at the hospital hoping and praying he doesn't join Martin Braden on the streets of Heaven.

All I can say is God must need the help up there, because Saint Peter lets in an average of one Wrecker Operator each week.

RIP, Mr. Braden. We are painfully sorry your life had to end today. Thank you for all the lives you helped save up to today's date.

A tow truck driver who had just repossessed a car was shot and killed in the street after being chased by a vehicle across several cities in Los Angeles County early Sunday morning.
