In case you missed the news, the Class of 2026 will be inducted on Saturday, October 24th at Lorain Raceway Park's Cavalcade.

The ceremony will be held pre-race, so get there early as you won't want to miss it.

Our usual First Saturday of the Month Racers Breakfast will be postponed to October 10th.

As many of you are aware, 2025 Hall of Fame Inductee and Board Member Jim Shirey's service will be held this Saturday (Oct 3rd). We will hold the breakfast next Saturday, October 10th at Pickett's Place in North Ridgeville.

Please keep praying for the Shirey family and all of Jim's friends.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 pm on Friday, October 2, 2026 at the Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Road (at State Route 57) in Elyria. An additional visitation will be held the following day on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home promptly at 9:00 a.m. and stop at Lorain Raceway Park where Jim will take his final victory lap around the track. Burial will immediately follow at Camden Cemetery. Pastor Mike Haury will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made directly to the family.

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Lorain County Motorsports Hall of Fame announces the passing of racing legend Jim Shirey.

Jim was a cornerstone of our racing community. Not only was he an active, dedicated, and invaluable member of our Hall of Fame Board, but we also had the distinct privilege of celebrating his incredible on-track legacy just last year when he was honored as a 2025 Inductee into the Hall of Fame.

From his thrilling days behind the wheel of a supermodified—including his unforgettable 1976 championship run—to his tireless work behind the scenes preserving the history of motorsports in our region, Jim’s impact was immeasurable. His passion for the sport, his wisdom in the boardroom, and his genuine friendship will be deeply missed by everyone who had the honor of working with him and watching him race.

We extend our most sincere condolences to the Shirey family, his friends, and his countless fans across the short-track racing community during this difficult time. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Godspeed, Jim. Your legacy will live on forever.

We have confirmed that the Class of 2026 Induction Ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 24th at Lorain Raceway Park.
