Vibration at speed. Squeak at low speed. Same part.

A U-joint is shaped like a cross with caps on each end, and inside those caps are needle bearings. When they dry out and start failing, the joint stops moving the way it should.

That's the vibration you feel and the squeak you hear. Ignore it long enough and a U-joint can let go, which turns a repair into a safety problem.

A standard rebuild is all new bearings and seals. Those are coming out regardless, because that's what fails and that's what you're in there for.

Everything past that gets decided by inspection. Ring and pinion, carrier, axles. Until it's open, anyone quoting you the full scope is guessing.

That whine from the back of your vehicle has a diagnosis.

Bearings are the most common differential failure and they whine constantly. A failing ring and pinion usually makes noise on one side only, so you hear it either on the throttle or off it.

A clicking noise is different entirely. That's often a chipped tooth or broken spider gears, and it tends to show up when you turn.

Why we always resurface the flywheel on a clutch job.

The flywheel is the surface your clutch disc rides on. Over the years it gets hot and the face warps or cracks. Cracked too deep and it has to be replaced, because those cracks will eat the friction material off a brand new clutch.

It isn't an add-on. It's the difference between a clutch that lasts and one that doesn't.

Think your clutch is going out?

The main symptom is slipping, where the engine revs but the power doesn't reach the ground. The other is when the pedal is down and it's still hard to get into gear.

That second one isn't automatically a worn clutch disc. It can just as easily be the master or slave cylinder, or a pressure plate not disengaging. Three different repairs, one complaint.

Lifetime transmission fluid isn't really a thing.

We don't agree with most manufacturer specs being published right now. Our recommendation from new: service at around 50,000 miles, again around 100,000, then about every 20,000 after that.

Everything inside breaks down over time and turns into sediment, and modern units run far tighter tolerances than the old ones did. Clean fluid buys you years.
