Our first meeting of the Smithville Garden Club was a success with over 50 members in attendance. There were a lot of new business to take care of with passing out Tour of Home tickets and new yearbooks to distribute to members. Our special guest was Kathy Danielson from the Smithville Chamber of Commerce who gave an overview of the upcoming events in our community.
Reminder: Put November 14th on your calendars to our annual Tour of Homes event in Smithville. Homes open at 11-3. Tickets are available now at $20 from any garden club member. Message me and I can get you some!!!!

Jenny Busche at 200 4th Ave is the September, 2026 recipient of Yard of the Month. We appreciate that she agreed to the award considering it was preceded by over a month of extreme drought. She diligently and
amazingly was able to keep watered her lovely streetscape of Vincas, Blue Salvia, Red Yuccas and poIed succulents. It’s especially advantageous for her to receive the honor because her property and our sign are quite
prominent as one enters “the hill”. Hopefully it will be an inspiration to all who see it. Her house is also an inspiration. It’s a beautiful 1911 Texas Rural style (possibly built from a
Sears & Roebuck kit that were popular during that period). She has lived in it 21 years and bought it from a member of the original family that built it. It sits on a double lot with lots of trees, a chicken coop, an adjacent art studio where she created acrylic stained art, and has a wonderful wrap around porch where many happy hours have been enjoyed with friends and neighbors.
Beautiful star lilies line her paths and there are tropical beds of Rootbeer plants, Umbrella grass and Mexican Petunias. Thank you, Jenny, for creating a beautiful entrance to “the hill” for all to enjoy.
