When a storm is approaching, where you park matters.

Just parking out of the rain isn't enough. Floodwaters can cause serious damage to your engine, electronics, and undercarriage - and we all know it comes on quickly.

If you can, park on high ground before the storm arrives.

If you drive an electric vehicle, hurricane season comes with a few extra things to keep in mind.

Before the storm arrives, make sure your battery is fully charged. If you lose power, it could be days before you're able to recharge. Once it's charged, disconnect the cable from the port and don't leave it plugged in during the storm. A power surge or lightning strike can cause serious damage.

Most importantly: consider getting your vehicle off the ground, as floodwater can be extremely damaging to an EV battery pack.

While you drive, the alternator is constantly recharging your battery and powering your electrical systems.

When it starts to fail, the signs are easy to dismiss as battery problems - dimming lights, slow starts, or a battery that never seems to hold a charge.

But sometimes the alternator is taking more power than it's putting back.

If you're seeing signs, don't just get a new battery. Check on your alternator first!
