Our hearts are broken over the loss of Squeaky. He was Lances right hand man. He helped with picking up parts, running the office, and most importantly making friends with every customer that stepped in the doors of Bownds Body Shop! He was the most encouraging person to be around and always made each day brighter. Our shop will never be the same without the grin on his face that we saw each day! We are asking for prayers for his sweet wife, Sandy, his kids and family, and the many friends he had in Slaton that will miss him dearly!

Squeaky Self, 77, of Slaton passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020.

Viewing will be 10-1 and 3-6 on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Englunds. Funeral Services will be 3:00 pm Sunday, January 3, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Slaton. Social distancing and masks are required. Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service. The service my be viewed on Englunds page.

Squeaky was born on November 2nd, 1943 in Big Spring to Oscar and Georgia Self. He graduated from Coahoma High School in Coahoma, Texas. He moved to Lubbock and went to work for Pioneer Natural Gas, now Atmos. He moved to Slaton in the late 60’s. Squeaky married Sandy Brush on August 4th, 1974. He retired from Atmos in 1998. He kept busy in his remaining years working as a building inspector for a year or so, then for Books and Fun, as a manager with Sandy at The Harvey House, and most recently at Bownds Body Shop. He was a big part of the community in Slaton, serving as City Commissioner since May of 2013 and as a member of Slaton Lions Club for over 20 years. Squeaky loved woodworking as well.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Everett, Myron, Bobby and Johnny Mac Self.

Squeaky is survived by his wife, Sandy of Slaton; his daughters, Patty McMillan and husband, Rodger of San Antonio; Beth Walbrick and husband, Rick of Levelland; his son, Shane Self and wife, Joy of Amarillo; his sisters, Bell Fowler of Coahoma, Dorothy Fay Rucker of Houston and Carolyn Holley of Greenville; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family suggest memorials be made to Slaton Meals on Wheels.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Martinez family. Not only did he brighten up the lives of our Bownds Body Shop family, but to our customers as well. We lost a very special body man this week. We will miss seeing his smile every day! 🙏🏼

Francisco “Frank” Martinez, 69, of Slaton, passed away on December 23, 2020.

Viewing will be 10-5 Monday, December 28, 2020 at the Englunds Chapel.
Private Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Englunds Chapel. Interment will be in Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. Social distancing and mask are required at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

Frank was born December 3, 1951 in Mexico to Narciso and Carlota Martinez. He married Rachel Martinez on December 29, 1997 in Lubbock. He worked as an auto body technician for over 47 years and was currently working for Bownds Body Shop in Slaton. He also served in the ministry at Fire from on High Apostolic Church for the last year and a half and had served in the ministry for over 47 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Johnny, Narciso Jr., Steve, Domingo, Charles and Manuel Martinez.

Frank is survived by his wife, Rachel; his sons, David and Samuel Martinez; his daughter, Carol Ann Martinez; his step-daughters, Jackie Guevara and Elaine Reyes; his sisters, Pauline Martinez, Andrea Millikan, and Rosemary Pena; his brothers, Louis, Robert and Lupe Martinez; and eight grandchildren.
