Hi friends! Faith here.
In honor of Women’s History Month, I wanted to share a bit of history and personal experiences of women in the automotive industry.
Women have been involved in the automotive industry since its beginning, and have played a key role in the successful development of the driving pleasure we enjoy today. During World War I, women drove ambulances for the Red Cross and were responsible for maintaining and repairing the vehicles. During World War II, women played a key role in the defense industry, making mechanical parts. These women have set a solid foundation for where we are today. Although just a small percentage of the automotive industry are women, the ratio has considerably increased. In the US women made up only 1.4% of the industry in 1999. In 2023, it was 12.3%.
I can truly say, being a woman who is learning mechanics and all about the industry, I have come across several challenges. Most having to do with stereotypes and discrimination. But I am here to tell you, overcoming these challenges are EMPOWERING!
Ladies, don’t let the stereotypes hold you back from chasing your career goals. We see powerful women working as technicians in a variety of industries, from automotive and diesel to motorcycle, marine and welding. If they can do it, so can you!
