🚨 𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍, 𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐔𝐗 𝐂𝐈𝐓𝐘 🚨

Over the last two weeks, we've seen another spike in vehicle burglaries and vehicle thefts, primarily involving Kia and Hyundai vehicles.

At this time, these incidents are primarily affecting the west side and north side of Sioux City, although everyone should remain vigilant.

We're looking for information about the individuals responsible.

The suspects are specifically targeting 𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐊𝐢𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐲𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐢 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧-𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬—not push-button start vehicles. In many of these cases, 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲 before attempting to steal the vehicle, so taking extra precautions can help reduce your risk.

The Sioux City Police Department has been in contact with our local Kia dealership. They recommend that Kia and Hyundai owners contact their manufacturer to determine whether their vehicle qualifies for available security upgrades or anti-theft improvements. Owners of vehicles with traditional turn-key ignitions should also consider installing an additional anti-theft device.

𝐀𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐮𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞? That's great—but don't let your guard down. Many thieves can't tell whether a Kia or Hyundai has been updated until after they've already broken a window or damaged the steering column trying to steal it.
