Customer states: my car is running really bad. Can you come find out what it is?

Cause: we found spark plugs covered in carbon build up and overall not in good shape, did some further digging and found cylinder two ignition coil bad and needing replaced.

Correction: we replaced the spark plugs with good iridium plugs, and are awaiting the arrival of the ignition coil. All ok at this time til the coil is replaced.

Customer states: I've taken my vehicle to a few mechanics and after one put new headlights in, they still didn't work and we had to order the ballasts. But now I've moved, can you install the ballasts? I'm told you have to remove the whole face of the car. Also, can you help us with the shifter cable. We got the right part and installed it but it's still popping off.

Cause: missing HID ballasts/found cable twisted and causing it to pop off

Correction: removed the front facia of the vehicle and removed the headlight housing assemblies. Installed new, customer provided ballasts and verified repair before going fully back together. Also installed new turn signal bulbs while we were in there.

Untwisted shift cable to the best of our ability. Reinstalled cable and bushing and verified repair.

All ok at this time.

Customer states: my car is running poorly, it keeps trying to die. We've done a lot of things to it like clean the maf sensor, changed the plugs, and a bunch of other stuff but it still sounds awful.

Cause: we found the cylinder 1 ignition coil bad.

Correction: after swapping cylinder one coil with cylinder 2 to verify if it was in fact the coil, we found the misfire moved along with it. We went and got a new ignition coil and installed it. After getting everything back together we verified the repair and all is ok at this time.

Customer states: my vehicle starts and runs just fine but doesn't want to seem to shift out of park. We had to have it towed home and when he towed it he had to move the lever on the transmission to get it into neutral then back to park. Can you help fix our car?

Cause: found shift linkage bushing dry rotted and broken

Correction: TEMP FIX. After much discussion we found a bushing that seems to hold the shifter in place for now, installed it and put the vehicle back together. We recommended to the customer that they needed to contact the dealer for the exact fit part but this may last a little while. Awaiting contact from customer to put correct part in when they get it, Monday was discussed.

Thanks Kat for contacting us at Big Al's Automotive!

Customer states: can you do an oil change on my vehicle?

Cause: maintenance

Correction: we performed an oil and filter change. This was one of the tools we used and I was sending this to a mechanic friend.

Customer states: I took my vehicle to another shop and they told me I needed brake pads and rotors. Can you check to see if that's accurate and replace them if it is, they told me they were under 3mm

Cause: concern about brakes

Correction: while we found the brake pads not as low as stated, we did find them at 5 and 6 mm. Both numbers are in yellow on the measuring scale while 3mm is in the red. We informed the customer and they asked since they're going on a long trip if we would replace it. We also noted that the rotors could be turned and don't need to be replaced, so we took them to our local auto parts store and had the rotors turned. After setting the new brakes and "burnishing" them into place, we found the vehicle stops as should at this time and all is ok. We did discuss doing the front brakes in the next few days as we found them at the same level and we will try to turn those rotors as well.

Thanks for your business!
