⚪️ Fun Fact Friday! ⚪️

Did you know tires are naturally white? That’s right! Natural rubber comes from the milky white sap (latex) of rubber trees.

So... what made them black? The game-changer came in 1912 with the introduction of carbon black, a material added to rubber that completely transformed tire performance. It makes tires stronger, improves traction, resists wear, helps dissipate heat, protects against UV rays and ozone, and even helps prevent static electricity from building up. Without carbon black, a tire might last only around 5,000 miles! 🤯

⭐️BONUS FACT⭐️ Ever wonder why the Michelin Man is white? It’s because he was created in 1898, when tires were still white, and he’s designed to look like a stack of tires! 🛞

Did you know that Lego is technically the world’s largest tire manufacturer?

LEGO produces over 300 million tiny rubber tires every year, some years topping 380 million, earning a Guinness World Record for the most tires manufactured annually. In 2025, LEGO even began rolling out tires made with at least 30% recycled materials.

What about Hot Wheels? Well, Hot Wheels produces hundreds of millions of toy cars each year. But here’s the twist: most Hot Wheels use one-piece molded plastic wheels, while LEGO makes separate rubber tires that fit onto individual wheels, and that’s what counts as a tire.

Now that’s a fun fact! 🧱🛞

NATIONAL TIRE SAFETY WEEK 2026

National Tire Safety Week 2026 takes place from June 29 to July 4. Led by the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA), the annual campaign educates motorists on critical tire maintenance just ahead of peak summer travel.

The USTMA recommends following the P.A.R.T. acronym for tire maintenance:

Pressure: Check all tire pressures (including the spare) at least once a month and before long road trips. Proper PSI can be found on the sticker inside the driver's door panel, not on the tire sidewall.

Alignment: Have a professional check your vehicle's alignment if you feel your car pulling to one side. Proper alignment prevents uneven treadwear.

Rotation: Rotate tires every 5,000 to 8,000 miles to promote even wear.

Tread: Routinely inspect tread depth. You can test this at home by inserting a penny upside down into a tread groove; if the top of Lincoln's head is visible, it's time to replace your tires.

🛞 Fun Fact Friday 🛞

The first air-filled tire was patented by Robert William Thomson in 1845. He called it the “Aerial Wheel,” but it was expensive to produce and the rough roads of the time made it impractical, so it never caught on.

43 years later, in 1888, John Boyd Dunlop reinvented the pneumatic tire to give his son’s tricycle a smoother ride. He officially patented his design on December 7, 1888 in Belfast, Ireland and it quickly gained popularity.🇮🇪 He later secured a U.S. patent in 1890, the same year his tire officially went into commercial production. 🇺🇸

⭐️ Today’s modern tires can trace their roots back to a kid’s tricycle. Pretty cool, right!? 🚲
