Today, April 27, Pennsylvania’s enhanced Move Over Law goes into effect.

The law creates a new point system for drivers who fail to merge into the lane not next to the emergency response area. Fines are set at $500 for first-time offenders, $1,000 for a second offense, and $2,000 for a third or subsequent offense.

In Pennsylvania, you must move one lane away when you encounter an emergency scene, traffic stop, or disabled vehicle. If you're unable to move over, you must slow down.

Drivers must move over or slow down for all responders, including police, fire, and ambulance crews, as well as stopped tow trucks and maintenance vehicles.

In 2018, a similar regulation went into effect to protect trash and recycling workers. Drivers must slow down and move one lane away (if possible) when approaching a stationary trash or recycling truck.

Take a look at the man in this picture. His name is Tyler Laudenslager. Remember his name. Now look at the woman in the picture. After you do that, look at the little girl in the picture. This is what this hero left behind. A beautiful wife that was expecting this man home after he was finished with the job. A beautiful baby girl who isn't going to get to be a Daddy's Girl. Slow down and pay attention, because this is what is at stake. Taking a loved one from their beautiful family.
