😂 AUTOMOTIVE MAGIC IS REAL

Customer pulls into the parking lot:

“My warning light has been on for three weeks.”

Technician gets in:

Light turns off.

Customer leaves:

Light comes back on before they get home. 😂

Vehicles have an incredible ability to behave perfectly when they know a mechanic is watching.

The good news is, even if the light goes back out, the vehicle may have stored information that can help us figure out what happened.

So if you’ve got a warning light that comes and goes, don’t assume the problem disappeared just because the light did.

🍂 FALL IS A GOOD TIME TO LISTEN TO YOUR BRAKES

Windows down. Radio off.

Hear anything?

Squeaking, grinding, scraping, or clicking when you hit the brakes can be your vehicle’s way of telling you something needs attention.

And if you’re feeling a vibration in the steering wheel or brake pedal, that’s worth checking too.

With winter driving right around the corner, now is a good time to make sure your brakes are ready for slick Iowa roads.

If something doesn’t sound or feel right, let us check it out.

🛻 DIESEL OWNERS: YOUR TURBO USUALLY GIVES YOU CLUES

A turbo problem doesn’t always start with a complete failure.

You might notice:

🔧 Less power than usual
🔧 Slower acceleration
🔧 Unusual whining or whistling
🔧 Excessive smoke
🔧 Oil consumption
🔧 Check engine light

And here’s the important part: those symptoms don’t automatically mean you need a turbo.

Boost leaks, sensors, exhaust restrictions, fuel problems, and other issues can cause similar symptoms.

That’s why we diagnose the problem before replacing expensive parts.

If your diesel isn’t pulling like it should, give us a call.

. 😂 WHAT’S YOUR VEHICLE’S NAME?

Some people own a 2018 Chevy Silverado.
Other people own Big Red, Betty, Old Faithful, The Money Pit, or “Please Start.” 😂

We know plenty of you have named your vehicles, and we want to hear the good ones.

👇 What do you call your car or truck, and how did it get the name?

Bonus points if the name came from something the vehicle did. 😂

April at West Fork Customs did an amazing job detailing my vehicle! The attention to detail was incredible, and you can tell she takes a lot of pride in her work. The interior looks and feels practically brand new again. Everything was spotless, clean, and done right.

I’m extremely impressed with how it turned out and would highly recommend April and West Fork Customs to anyone looking for a quality detail. Excellent work, great service, and definitely worth it. I’ll absolutely be back!

🔧 ONE BAD TIRE CAN MATTER ON AWD

Replacing only one tire on an AWD vehicle isn’t always as simple as matching the size printed on the sidewall.

If the other three tires have significantly more wear, the difference in actual tire circumference can put unnecessary stress on the AWD system.

That’s why we look at tread depth and the vehicle manufacturer’s specifications before recommending whether one tire can safely be replaced by itself.

Sometimes the cheapest option today isn’t the cheapest option long-term.

Have a tire question? Give us a call.

🛻 DIESEL OWNERS: DON’T FORGET THE CCV SYSTEM

One diesel maintenance item that doesn’t get talked about enough is the crankcase ventilation system.

Depending on the truck, a restricted CCV filter or ventilation problem can contribute to excessive crankcase pressure, oil leaks, increased oil consumption, and other issues.

If you’ve noticed new oil leaks or your diesel just isn’t acting like it used to, it’s worth checking instead of automatically assuming you have a major engine problem.

Need your diesel serviced or diagnosed?

😂 EVERY TOOLBOX HAS ONE...

You can own thousands of dollars worth of professional tools...

But somehow the tool everybody needs is always:

The 10mm socket. 😂

You buy one.

It disappears.

You buy another.

It disappears.

At this point, we’re pretty sure every vehicle has a secret compartment specifically designed to collect them.

🔧 Mechanics, DIYers and fellow 10mm victims...

How many 10mm sockets do you think you’ve lost over the years? 👇

🧂 IOWA WINTER = RUST SEASON

We spend a lot of time talking about batteries and tires before winter, but there’s another enemy coming...

ROAD SALT.

Salt and brine can attack brake lines, fuel lines, suspension components, exhaust systems, and the underside of your vehicle.
Once the roads start getting treated this winter, washing the underside of your vehicle periodically is one of the simplest things you can do to help slow down corrosion.

Especially if you plan on keeping your vehicle for a long time.

Around here, sometimes it isn’t the engine that ends a vehicle’s life. It’s the rust.

🛻 DIESEL OWNERS: DEF DOESN’T LAST FOREVER

DEF is something a lot of diesel owners don’t think about until there’s a warning on the dash.

Old, contaminated, or improperly stored DEF can cause problems with the SCR emissions system. And accidentally putting diesel fuel, coolant, or anything else in the DEF tank can turn into a very expensive mistake.

If you’re getting a DEF quality, SCR, or emissions warning, don’t automatically assume it just needs more DEF.

There may be something else going on that needs to be diagnosed.

Having diesel emissions problems? Give us a call.
