🦌 A Rare Sight! - South Carolina

While out on a call last night, we ran across this beautiful piebald buck and couldn’t help but stop and admire him for a few minutes!

The hunter said he had never seen this buck before and was just as excited as we were to see him.

Out of all the calls and countless deer we’ve seen, this makes only the second piebald deer we’ve ever come across—the first being a mature doe.

Definitely a cool sight and one we don’t get to see every day!

🚨 Recovery Alert 🚨 - Hopkins, SC 🦌 🐕

First off, we want to congratulate this hunter on successfully recovering his deer! 🦌

We received the call yesterday morning after the hunter made a high shot above the shoulder. The deer went down, got back up, and ran off.

As we explained, we typically do not conduct thermal searches during daylight hours, but we had roughly a 30-minute window before the sun came up and thermal conditions became ineffective. That window became 15mins upon arrival.

Once we arrived, we learned more about what had happened. The deer had already been jumped, the hunter had taken another shot at him, and the neighboring landowner had also shot at the deer and was actively trying to track him with a dog.

We put the drone up and immediately located the neighbor and his dog still moving through the woods. At that point, we knew this deer was likely still alive, mobile, and had probably put some serious distance between himself and the last blood.

This was no longer a thermal drone recovery situation.

Our priority has always been doing what gives the hunter the best possible chance of recovering their deer, regardless of whether that means using our drone or calling in a tracking dog.

We reached out to a friend with SCTD who we have worked alongside on situations like this before. He was unavailable but helped get another tracker headed that way.

About 45 minutes after the dogs were put on the trail, they located the wounded deer roughly 1,000 yards from last blood, where he was successfully dispatched and recovered. 👏🐕

We knew right away that a dog was the right tool for this particular situation, so that's exactly what we recommended.

There is a place for thermal drones and there is a place for tracking dogs. We aren't biased toward either one, and we don't look at recovery work as a competition. The only thing that matters is giving the hunter and the animal the best possible outcome.

And just to clear up any confusion — this was NOT a “behind-the-drone” dog track. The dog team earned this recovery from the trail, and credit goes where credit is due.

At the end of the day, it's about working together and recovering the deer. 🦌🤝🐕

🦌 STORY TIME — SECOND CHANCES! 🦌

We wanted to share a pretty awesome story from one of our recent clients that proves persistence, patience, and trusting your instincts can pay off!

Back on August 16th, Dallas reached out to us after making a shot on a nice 12pnt SC buck. He had no blood, but from the deer’s reaction, he felt confident there had been contact.

We dispatched that night and began searching. After covering the area with no luck, we decided to check behind his stand where the buck was known to bed.

That’s when we found him — alive, on his feet, and moving!

We followed and monitored the buck from the air for a while, paying close attention to his movement and behavior. Everything we saw indicated that he was doing just fine. He showed no signs of being mortally wounded or in distress.

We told Dallas, “He’ll be back. Hopefully you’ll get another chance at him.”

Knowing how persistent and consistent Dallas had been hunting this buck, we figured it was only a matter of time.

Sure enough… 3 days later, Dallas sent us pictures of the buck back on camera, eating corn with his bachelor buddies like nothing ever happened! 💪🦌

Dallas stayed after him. He hunted smart, stayed patient, and played his cards exactly right.

Three more days later, the opportunity came.

Dallas got his SECOND CHANCE — and this time, he didn’t disappoint! 🎯

He made a perfect shot and officially closed the chapter on this 12pnt SC STUD! 🦌🏆

Congratulations again, Dallas! We appreciate you trusting us to assist in locating and evaluating him after that first shot. Getting confirmation that a deer is still alive and doing well can be just as important as making a recovery.

Consistency and dedication are eventually rewarded. Never give up, and always trust your instincts! 💪

🚨 Recovery Alert 🚨 — Sumter, SC 🦌

Congratulations to Bynum on an absolute SC STUD with the bow!🏹🦌

Bynum reached out to us yesterday afternoon, just 10 minutes after taking the shot. After discussing the shot placement and the minimal blood found at the corn pile, we agreed the best decision was to back out and give the buck some time.

With a deer of this caliber, the last thing we wanted to do was risk jumping or pushing him and potentially turn a straightforward recovery into a much more difficult one.

After giving him about an hour, we put the drone in the air. Within just 2 minutes, we located the buck down and already expired, exactly as we had hoped!

The outcome couldn’t have been any better. Chances are Bynum may not have needed the drone to eventually find this buck, but not taking the chance of bumping him was the right call. He trusted the process, backed out, and allowed us to confirm exactly where his deer was.

Another FULL RECOVERY and an absolute brute of a South Carolina buck! 💪🦌

🚨 Recovery Alert 🚨 - Camden, SC 🦌 🏹

Congratulations to Jason on his first buck with a bow!

Jason reached out to us after the shot and explained the situation. After looking over pictures of the blood, we agreed the hit was most likely gut/stomach, and the best decision was to give the buck plenty of time and back out.

We serviced another call before heading his way, and once we arrived and got the drone in the air, we located his buck already expired only about 100 yards from last blood!

One of the coolest parts—the arrow was still inside the buck, and the lighted nock was STILL glowing! 🔥🏹

Jason wasn't far off the track, but instead of continuing to push forward, he made the right call and backed out. That decision gave the deer time to expire and helped make another quick, successful recovery.

When in doubt, back out! Sometimes patience is the biggest part of a successful recovery.

🚨 Recovery Alert 🚨 - Dalzell, SC 🦌

Congratulations to Matthew on a nice 9-point velvet buck with the bow! 🦌🏹

Mathew reached out to us Monday morning after shooting this buck the afternoon before. After discussing the shot and the situation, we felt confident the buck would already be expired, so we planned to come out that night when thermal conditions would be at their best.

Within the first 15 minutes of flight, we located his buck already expired — and headed in the opposite direction from where they had been searching, attempting to make it back toward his bedding area.

⏱️ This track was approximately 27 HOURS OLD from the time of the shot to the time we located him, and the thermal signature was still nothing short of perfect.

Another great example of how effective thermal technology can be even well after the shot.
