🚨A routine evening on the water turned into a rescue mission in just minutes. 🚨

Yesterday evening, reports came over Channel 16 of an overturned kayak in Shallotte Inlet, with multiple people in the water and in distress.

Within minutes, Captain Ed was underway.
One by one, the pieces came together: two kayakers had already been recovered by a passing vessel, but a third person and the kayak were still unaccounted for in the inlet’s breaking surf.

Captain Ed continued toward the inlet, located the remaining kayaker and the partially submerged kayak being pushed ashore by the waves, safely recovered both, and confirmed all three individuals were accounted for and unharmed.

What started as a recreational paddle could have ended very differently.

A huge thank you to the good Samaritans aboard the Procat for their quick actions and to U.S. Coast Guard Sector NC for coordinating communications.

This is why we always say: wear your life jacket, respect the inlet, and never underestimate changing conditions on the water.
