๐ SEVIER COUNTY DECLARES DAY OF MOURNING FOR DOLLY PARTON
Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters and Mayor-Elect Bryan McCarter have announced that Wednesday, August 26, 2026, will be observed as a Day of Mourning in Sevier County in honor of Dolly Parton.
In addition, the Sevier County flag will be flown at half-staff until the day of Dollyโs interment.
The countyโs statement remembers Dolly not only as a Tennessee icon, but as โone of our ownโ โ recognizing the extraordinary impact she had right here at home.
From helping Sevier County recover following the devastating 2016 wildfires, to changing the lives of children and families through the Imagination Library, Dolly never forgot where she came from.
The statement says it beautifully:
โSevier County has lost a beloved friend, an extraordinary neighbor, and an icon whose legacy will forever be part of the story of our community.โ
For those of us who call Sevier County home, Dolly was never simply a celebrity whose name appeared on signs and attractions.
She was our neighbor.
She was our greatest ambassador.
And time after time, when this community needed her, Dolly showed up.
Tomorrow, Sevier County mourns one of its own. ๐๐ฆ
