Your boat can hold the correct heading and still drift off course—here’s why.

Heading Hold keeps the bow pointed at a selected compass heading. Wind or current can still push the boat sideways, so your actual path may drift.

Course Hold focuses on your course over ground. It adjusts the boat’s heading to compensate for wind and current, helping you maintain the selected course.

The easiest way to remember it:

Heading = where the bow is pointed.
Course = where the boat is actually going.

Save this for the next time you’re using Yamaha Helm Master EX—and remember, autopilot is an aid. Stay at the helm and maintain a proper lookout.
