🚨 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: ICE IS FOOD. 🧊
Yes, really.
In Florida, packaged ice is regulated as a FOOD PRODUCT. You can't simply make ice in a barn, garage, home, outbuilding, or other unpermitted location, hand-bag it, and sell or distribute it.
Commercial ice is subject to Florida food-safety laws, including FDACS Rule 5K-4.023.
Legitimate ice manufacturers must have:
🧊 A properly permitted commercial food establishment
🧊 An approved potable water source
🧊 Sanitary food-production facilities and equipment
🧊 Compliant food-safe packaging and labeling
🧊 Quarterly laboratory testing of finished ice for total and f***l coliforms
🧊 Proper handling, storage, and transportation to prevent contamination
And no, "it's just water" is not an exemption.
Neither is "we're a small business."
Neither is "it's homemade."
Neither is "we only sell locally."
Simply putting ice into a bag does NOT make it legal to sell.
Businesses buying ice for resale should know where it came from and whether it was legally produced, packaged, and labeled.
