Last week, I was able to attend the Gemeco Marine Electronics Specialists dealer and installer training. This is the type of event where dealer/installers get certified on products and technology. Being certified means you have attended training, worked on the products and passed tests. So if given the choice, look to work with dealer/installers who are certified on the products you are interested in adding to your boat. And there's often benefits - manufacturer's offer extended warranties and advanced tech support when products are installed by those certified installers.
I was able to add 3 new certifications: Advanced NMEA 2000 Network, Airmar Certified Installer (ACI) and CZone Certified Technician.
National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) is the organization behind the ubiquitous NMEA 2000 Network. As a Certified Advanced NMEA 2000 Installer/Technician, I am able to design, install and troubleshoot the networks that manage the critical communication between your electronic devices and sensors.
Airmar Technology Corporation is the leading transducer manufacturer best known for their innovative CHIRP transducers. Airmar offers 1 year extended warranty (on top of their 2 year standard warranty) on all transducers installed by an Airmar Certified Installer.
CZone is the leading digital switch system offered by the Navico Group (the manufacturer of Simrad Yachting/B&G/Lowrance) and is featured an OEM installed system on dozens and dozens of boats. It's a fantastic system that offers advanced control and switching of all the digital circuits and devices on your boat. And as a certified CZone technician, I can design, install, modify and troubleshoot your CZone system.
