Scottsbluff Rural Fire Protection District The Scottsbluff Rural Fire Protection District covers 280 square miles. Scottsbluff Rural Fire Protection District is made up of two entities.

They are The Rural Fire Board ,and The Rural Fire Association (firefighters and other volunteers, self governing assembly). Who's primary function is fire suppression and public safety.Currently we have 25 active volunteer firefighters and are always looking for others who would like to help their community. We also have many individuals who volunteer in non-firefighting functions, such as fund raising and various other things going on around the fire house. If you would like to know more, stop by our station on Saturdays from 9-12 and talk to any officer or firefighter if you have any questions about how you can help!

We have been SO busy we are a little behind filling you in on what we have been doing!
Tuesday we had an exciting day filled with 5th graders at the NRD!
It’s always so much fun to be able to interact with all of them, teach them about water safety, fire safety, let them spray the fire hose and see all their smiling faces!

On October 10, 2026 at approximately 14:40pm, Scottsbluff Rural Fire Department was dispatched to a report of power lines down at the intersection of County Road 20 and West 42nd Street. Upon arrival it was discovered that multiple poles had snapped along 42nd street. These poles and lines were covering the intersections and street. Roosevelt Public Power was contacted immediately.
At 15:30, while still on scene of the first incident, we were dispatched to Sugar Factory Road and 42nd Street for a kite in a power line. NPPD was alerted to this incident and assisted.
Units all cleared at 17:00.

We would like to remind everyone to stay away from downed power lines and do not drive over them!

Tonight we got the opportunity to train on foam pit and trampoline rescue. This proved to be an interesting training! Everyone walked alway having learned something new. New tools and different methods were utilized during different scenarios.
We are grateful we had the chance to hold this training!

On Sept. 17, 2026 at approximately 12:30pm, Scottsbluff Rural Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Highway 92 and County Road 19 for a grass fire. A burn permit had been issued for this area earlier in the day.
Upon the Fire Chief’s arrival, multiple burns were being conducted of heavy fuels. Heavy smoke was filling a residential area. The landowner was advised to bury all burning material with the backhoe on site.
While burning can be a useful tool, it must also be done in a safe manner.

Three units and 8 personnel cleared around 13:30pm.

Today 9/12/26, Scottsbluff Rural Fire hosted a training burn on a house donated to us. This is always a great opportunity for our firefighters to learn in a controlled environment. We thank the land owner for this opportunity. We also thank Mitchell Fire Department, Western Nebraska Regional Airport fire Department and Banner Fire Department for taking the time to train with us.

On Sept. 11, 2026 at 18:42pm, Scottsbluff Rural Fire Department responded to a hay bale on fire North of Lake Minatare Road and CR 24.
The fire was extinguished and all units cleared scene at 19:30.
